Arms and Armour
2023
Game and video installation

The artwork ‘Arms and Armour’ is not just an interactive game and video installation; it is a powerful call to action that urges people to recognize the importance of equality, freedom, and community in the world we live in. Drawing inspiration from the civic guards of the patriot era in the Netherlands, the artwork brings the message of civic responsibility to a contemporary audience.

The installation encourages us to see the world as a shared space that belongs to all of us, not just to those in positions of power. It emphasizes that we are all equal and that no one has the right to dominate or control others based on their wealth, intelligence, or physical strength. The message of the artwork is clear: we need to work together to build societies that are based on shared values and aspirations.

The story of ‘Arms and Armour’ is both inspiring and challenging. It reminds us to be vigilant against those who would treat us as property, to embrace our common humanity, and to work together to create a world that is fair and just for everyone. While the artwork was created for Stadsavontuur Zutphen as part of an interactive art tour about the history of this Hanseatic city, its message is universal and relevant to people all over the world.
